Building Trust Through Hallmarking: The Silver Sisters Guarantee
At Silver Sisters, trust, craftsmanship, and authenticity are at the core of everything we do. With over a decade of experience in the business; handed down from my sister-in-law who originally started the business back in early 2000’s; our commitment to offering the finest Sterling Silver jewellery has remained unwavering. For the last ten years, we have been based in Edinburgh, sourcing stunning handcrafted pieces from trusted silversmiths on the beautiful island of Bali.
Our Partnership with Bali's Finest Silversmiths
We’ve built strong relationships with our silversmiths, having worked with them from the very beginning. We know them personally, have visited their workshops, and can confidently say that every piece is created with care, precision, and love for the craft. Most of our designs are exclusive to Silver Sisters, and many draw inspiration from the rich traditions of Bali—renowned for its intricate and detailed silver-work.
Our commitment doesn’t stop at craftsmanship; we ensure that each artisan is paid a fair wage, reflecting their talent and dedication. Plus, by purchasing directly from our trusted suppliers, we can offer this beautiful, high-quality jewellery at exceptional prices to our customers.
Sterling Silver Guaranteed
At Silver Sisters, we take pride in offering only the finest Sterling 925 Silver. This means that every piece of silver jewellery we offer contains at least 92.5% pure silver. Sterling Silver is prized for its durability and timeless appeal, making it the perfect material for stunning, long-lasting jewellery.
Hallmarking: A Promise of Authenticity
To further assure the authenticity of our jewellery, we follow strict UK hallmarking standards. Any piece weighing over 7.78g—Which is most of our collection—undergoes hallmarking by the Edinburgh Assay Office, one of the four government-authorised Assay offices in the UK.
The hallmark consists of three important symbols:
- Sponsor’s Mark: This identifies the maker or company responsible for the item. For us, this is SB, representing Sarah and Beth, the two sisters behind Silver Sisters.
- Fineness Mark: This number shows the precious metal content. All of our pieces are marked with 925, indicating the high purity of the silver used.
- Assay Office Mark: is the mark to show where the item was tested. Since we are based in Edinburgh, our hallmark includes the castle symbol, representing the city’s iconic Edinburgh Castle.
This hallmarking process ensures that every piece of silver we sell meets stringent standards of quality and purity, giving you peace of mind that you are purchasing authentic, high-quality jewellery.
A Special Note - Understanding Our Men’s Bracelet Collection
Many of our men’s bracelets feature a box clasp fastening for a secure fit. However, as silver is a soft metal, the clasp "tongue"—the part that clicks into place—can weaken over time. To combat this, our silversmiths use a small amount of base metal in the clasp’s tongue, reducing the silver content slightly to 800 Sterling Silver. This makes the clasp much stronger and more durable.
To comply with the Assay Office’s regulations, we clearly mark the clasp tongue as a different metal and ensure it’s visibly distinct from the main bracelet. This is a small trade-off for enhanced strength and longevity. When the bracelet is closed, the tongue is hidden, so you won’t see it, but you’ll enjoy the lasting durability.
Trust in Every Piece
We’ve worked closely with the Edinburgh Assay Office for many years to ensure that our jewellery meets the highest standards. This collaboration helps us offer you beautiful designs that are not only visually stunning but also built to last.
When you purchase from Silver Sisters, you are not only buying a piece of jewellery—you are investing in a tradition of trust, quality, and authenticity. We invite you to explore our collection, knowing that every piece has been crafted with care, responsibly sourced, and hallmarked for your peace of mind.
